STATEMENT

In the face of adversity, art becomes more than an expression; it becomes a bridge connecting shared experiences, a testament to resilience, and a catalyst for awareness. I am Eric Brunner, an artist from Philadelphia, and my journey with ALS has propelled me into uncharted artistic territory. I will not be constrained by physical limitations to create art. From this challenge emerged a new chapter, one defined by digital art and leaving behind the "traditional" forms I can no longer create. a profound desire to make an impact. "Grim Realities, Bold Faces" is a visual narrative seeking to redefine perceptions of ALS. The core concept involves creating over 200 digitally sculpted busts. To see the larger image created within the individual busts you are forced to look every person in the eye, each one impacted by the weight of this disease. This installation aims to capture the grit, strength, and unity within the ALS community. Every face is a brushstroke, painting a larger portrait of resilience and shared humanity. audience recognizing this " disease is in fact not rare, and affects everyone in its path.

"Grim Realities, Bold Faces serves as a call to action, inviting individuals—PALS (People with ALS), caregivers, family members, and medical professionals—to participate by contributing their own 3D scans. Through this collaborative effort, we aim to transform statistics into tangible stories, fostering empathy and understanding. Together, let's amplify awareness, challenge perceptions, and celebrate the indomitable spirit that defines the ALS community.
